Cafe What?

There’s always something new to learn every day but sometimes the easiest things to know can be the most embarrassing to learn.

Today, I visited a local coffee spot in Sedona, Arizona called Creekside Coffee.

Being me, I wanted to try something on the menu I’ve never had. The one thing on the menu I’ve never tried before was the Cafe Au Lait.

I didn’t know how to pronounce it because it’s in French but I tried like I knew and the barista looked at me like I was an idiot and he had every reason to. He corrected me and I could hear a few chuckles among the patrons in the cafe.

So cafe au lait is pronounced cafe oh lay. Wow. I was feeling super small but honestly, I never knew how it was spelled and quite honestly I didn’t try to get all French about it either.

This definitely made me laugh at myself because I should have known but, of course, I didn’t. But what can you do? There’s always something new to learn every day and anyone who thinks they know everything really doesn’t know much.

So what have you learned that came off as embarrassing because you feel that you should’ve known before you got schooled?
